Role of the governor

The Governor of the British Virgin Islands is appointed by and represents Her Majesty The Queen. The Governor is the representative of Her Majesty The Queen in the Territory and the Constitutional Head of State; and represents the Territory’s interests to Her Majesty’s Government in London.

The Governor is responsible for maintaining peace, order and good governance. He is also de facto head of the public service, oversees the administration of the courts and chairs Cabinet meetings. He is responsible directly to the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
